REPUBLICANS WIN VA AND NJ GOVERNORSHIPS
Conservative Republican, Bob McDonnell easily won Virginia's Governor race yesterday by an 18 point margin. Just last year, Barack Obama won the state of Virginia with a 6 point margin over John McCain. That is a 24 point swing towards the Republicans.
In New Jersey, while certainly not a full on conservative, but far from being a liberal, Republican Chris Christie, won the Governor race with a 5 point margin. Barack Obama also won New Jersey last year with a 15 point margin. That is a 20 point swing towards the Republicans.
Many liberals are saying these races were not a referendum on President Obama, and to some extent there is some truth to that. People tend to vote locally on local issues. However, polling at the voting stations showed that many people were voting as a way to show their displeasure with Obama and the current direction of this country. Time will tell. The 2010 mid-term elections will be a much better barometer for voters' satisfaction or dissatisfaction with Obama and the Democratic Congress.
