It wasn't cute. It wasn't funny. And it certainly didn't buy you any favor. For Rudy, a candidate who already has gun owners nervous about his record, to interupt his speech before the N.R.A. to take a "spontaneous" phone call from his wife, was just plain stupid. Whichever one of your handlers or campaign advisers thought up that chirade...fire them now. We don't need nonsense like this. It was completely disrespectful to your audience. I like Rudy, but between this and his saying that illegal immigration is not a crime....his stock has gone down in my book a little.

Rudy said that he thought that people on the terrorist watch list should be excluded from owning guns, which sounds all fine and good on the surface until you consider that people can be placed on the terrorist watch list for arbitrary reasons including speaking out against the government as several people who have spoken out against the Bush Administration have found out. Gunownership was not included in the constitution for secure the rights of sportsmen to go duck hunting, it was placed in the constitution to secure our revolutionary right to overthrow the government. Allowing the government to disarm anyone who threatens their security by speaking out against the government is dangerous. Liberty is more greatly jeapordized by an insane government when the people have no means to defend themselves, than it could ever be threatened by deranged terrorists with guns.
