THANK YOU VETERANS!

No matter how many times I write about Veteran's Day, I never feel like I have the words to convey my true appreciation for all the courageous men and women who have served this nation with honor, bravery and distinction.  Our veterans have that special something that the rest of us can only dream about having.  Their selflessness, commitment to country and family and their sacrifices are something those of us who have not served will never truly understand. We owe them all a debt that can never be repayed.

So....knowing my words here are inadequate at best...let me simply say to our veterans, "Thank you."

I'LL BE IN LAKE PLACID, NY UNTIL SUNDAY NIGHT

Just a quick note.  I'll be in Lake Placid, NY until Sunday night.  My son has a hockey tournament there.  What better place to go to forget about Tuesday's election.....the place where the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team beat the Russians and then went on to win the gold medal. It was the year of Ronald Reagan. It was the dawn of a new era in the United States. I can get lost in that for a few days and then it's back to work to find real conservative candidates to run in 2010.

Wish us luck and send good vibes towards NY on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for his team!

Any ProudConservative.com products ordered on 11/6/08 - 11/09/08 will not be shipped out until Monday 11/10/08.  Thanks for your patience.  Also, I'm not sure how much computer time I will have.....probably not a lot, so there may be no posts for several days and it may take a few days to answer any emails I get.

BARACK OBAMA ELECTED 44TH PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES

It's unofficially "official."  Sen. Barack Obama will be the 44th President of the United States of America.

I'll have more to say as time goes on, but let me say this very quickly.  I have already gotten emails and messages of despair.  No matter who is President of the United States, we are the greatest nation on Earth.  I say, "we are the greatest nation on Earth" because it is the hard working, talented and brave people of this nation that make this country great....not the President.

So yes, it's o.k. to be bummed tonight.  It's o.k. to be bummed for a few days.  But get your heads on straight and get ready.  We are gong to have a lot of work to do to keep the socialist/marxist agenda at bay.  It is going to take all of us doing our due dilgence and paying attention to what is going on in our government to make sure that we do not let our nation fall completely to the socialists.  We must stand strong.  We must make our voices heard.  We must seek out new conservative candidates to run in 2010 and 2012.

Hopefully, the Republican Party has learned a lesson in all of this.  You don't beat the Democrats by becoming more like them.  You beat the Democrats by being a true opposition party.  You beat them with true conservative principles, not watered down moderate ones.

As I said, I'll have more to say in the upcoming days and weeks, but for now.....STAND STRONG, KEEP YOUR HEADS UP, AND BE PROUD TO BE CONSERVATIVES.  I have a sinking feeling this nation is going to need many strong conservatives in the upcoming 2 - 4 years.

I VOTED...DID YOU?

So after months and months of struggling on how to vote as a proud conservative this election. I chose not to vote as a conservative but as an American. The only way I see my vote being cast as a conservative is that I voted for Palin and if McCain has to come along too, well then so be it.

Get out and vote everybody. Too many brave men and women have died to give us this most precious right. I don't care how long the lines are. I don't care what the weather is. I don't care if you have other things to do. Make time and vote. This is an important election. I don't care if you don't like McCain....everyone knows I don't. Vote for Sarah Palin. Vote against marxism. But be sure to vote today!

I'VE MADE MY DECISION....

I've made my decision about the election next Tuesday.  As you may or may not know, I have been struggling to come to a decision on how to vote this year.  And I want to go back and discuss some of my thought process and then finally how I came to my decision.

As the Republican primaries began and the debates began, I wasn't sure who I was going to support.  As the debates rolled on and the primaries began, I was open to 9 of the 10 candidates.  I watched what they were saying and compared it to what they had actually done.  In the end, I made my decision to endorse Rep. Duncan Hunter.  To me he was the best conservative in the running with the record to back it up.  Unfortunately, by time the Connecticut primary rolled around, Rep. Hunter had already dropped out of the race and Sen. John McCain looked as if he was well on his way to winning the nomination.

This was the first time this election season I had to make a decision I didn't really want to make.  Do I vote for Duncan Hunter because he was the best conservative on my ballot or do I vote for someone else in order to defeat the one candidate I did not want to win the nomination?  And yes, you all know by now, if you've been a regular reader of ProudConservative.com, the candidate I was not open to and the candidate I did not want to win the nomination was John McCain.  I chose to vote for Gov. Mitt Romney in my primary soley because I thought he was the one candidate who could stop McCain from winning the nomination.  Mitt Romney was not a solid conservative, and not my ideal choice, but he was an acceptable alternative to McCain.

Well, as we all know, Mitt Romney dropped out shortly thereafter and eventually the few candidates left in the race, Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul did as well.  John McCain won the nomination.

So began my internal struggle.  The one candidate I did not want to win....the one candidate who angered me more than most any other Republican in the Senate, was the nominee for the Republican party.  How could I, as a proud conservative, vote for this man?  I couldn't.  I looked into some of the third party guys.  And I liked some of the stuff some of them were saying, but I also disagreed with many of their stances on certain issues.  I had basically come to the conclusion that I was most likely going to write in Duncan Hunter's name.

As the Democrat primaries were finishing up, it eventually became clear that Sen. Barack Obama was going to be the Democrat nominee.  As I did some research on him and the multitude of stories came out about him and his radical associations and as I heard his wife talk and I realized not only is this man a liberal, but he's a damned marxist, I started rethinking what I was going to do.

It came time for McCain to choose his running mate.  Now at this point, McCain had been trying to talk a good game to conservatives, but I wasn't buying a word of it.  As a conservative, I didn't believe any of the conservative talk coming from him.  However, I said that if he picked a solid conservative vice presidential running mate, I would hold my nose and vote for him.....or in reality, vote for the vice presidential candidate.  And to my shock and surprise, not only did he pick a solid conservative in Gov. Sarah Palin, but he picked one of my top 3 choices.  I made up my mind.  I was going to vote for the ticket.....not necessarily McCain....but the ticket.  I figured I was going to give McCain the benefit of the doubt now that he had actually proven to me he was trying to "make-up" with conservatives by putting Palin on the ticket.  And I decided if a vote "for".....and yes the "for" is in quotes on purpose.....McCain meant that Palin would get her foot in the door at the White House, and it would most likely give her the nomination in 2012, I could live with that.

But then the debates happened, and John McCain opened his mouth with some idiotic statements and policy ideas.  Then the so-called "mortgage crisis" happened and McCain voted for that awful, unconstitutional bail out bill.  He also through out the idea that he would direct the Treasury to buy up bad mortgages.  His handlers were ruining Palin.  She had to spout McCain talking points about issues she clearly disagreed with him on.  It was all getting ugly to me.

I began to go back to considering writing in a candidate, perhaps even Gov. Palin herself if not Duncan Hunter.   I got a lot of flack from some friends and was told that I was going to help elect Barack Obama.  I was told that a vote for anyone other than McCain was a vote for Barack Obama.  I was told I was wasting my vote.  I was told I had to get on the McCain bandwagon.  I was even told, by someone who has extremely similar politcal views to me, that my conservative principles didn't matter in this election and that I had to vote for McCain.

I countered with, and I still hold these beliefs to be completely valid and true, that there is no such thing as a wasted vote.  If I chose to write in a candidate, I would not be helping elect Barack Obama.  The only way that I would help elect Obama was if I voted for Obama and that was never going to happen.  If I chose to write in a candidate or vote third party, my vote would be cast for that person and it was not a vote for Obama.  I own my vote.  The Republican party does not own my vote and certainly John McCain does not own my vote, so therefore, if I chose to vote third party or write in, it was not a vote that John McCain lost.  It was a vote he never had.  And I said principles ALWAYS matter.

So for the past 2 to 3 weeks, I have been really struggling about what to do.  I was reading some stuff on the internet.  I listened to some talk radio.  I was trying to find that one thing that just set the lightbulb off in my head and gave me the answer.  And then it happened.  I saw one of my very own ProudConservative.com T-shirts in my drawer.  It was the "Priorities" design which says, "AMERICAN, CONSERVATIVE, REPUBLICAN....in that order."

The truth is, as a Conservative, I don't have a candidate in this race.  As a Republican, I hardly have a candidate in this race.  But as an American, which is what comes first to me, I have to do what is right for America.  This election comes down to voting for a candidate, and not only a candidate but basically an entire party, who wants to turn the dream of our founding fathers into a socialist nightmare.  Our founders were for limited self government.  They drafted our Constitution purposely as a document that limited the powers of government.  It is not a document of rights.  It is a document that limits the power of the federal government.  Sen. Obama and the Democrat leaders in the Senate and Congress want to completely ignore what the Constitution says.  They want the federal government to use it's power and turn this great nation in to a cradle to the grave nanny state.  They want to raise taxes on those that work so that they can give "tax rebates" to those that don't work.  A rebate is when you pay something and then you get some of it back.  When you pay nothing and still get money back.....that's called welfare.  They want to redistribute wealth.  They want to socialize our helath care industry.  They want to impose windfall profit taxes.  Since when is making a profit a bad thing?  They want to raise capital gains taxes and income taxes and corporate taxes.  They want to slash our military budget, in these very dangerous times, by 25%.  They are against our nation becoming energy independant.  They will ruin this nation as we know it and I have to do what I can, not as a conservative.....not as a Republican.....but as an American, to stop them.

Sen. John McCain is not my ideal candidate.  He's not even close.  But just as I did back in the primaries, I am going to vote for the candidate that has the best chance of stopping the candidate I don't want to win from winning.  I know I will be in major disagreements with him very often.  I will fight his policies that I don't agree with with everything that I have.  At least I will not have to fight him on every single issue though.  All of that said, and truth be told, this is more of an anti-Obama vote than anything else, but I have decided that, as an American, I will vote "for" John McCain this November 4th.

OBAMA REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH AUDIO

Listen VERY carefully to everything he is saying. He is bemoaning the fact that the Constitution does not allow redistribution of wealth. He does not like the fact that our founding fathers were smart enough to set the Constitution up as a limit on government powers.....instead of promoting what the government "must do on your behalf." There is no doubt that this man is a socialist.

OBAMA SUPPORTERS FOR MCCAIN POLICIES?

Howard Stern, of Sirius Satellite Radio, had one of his associates go into Harlem, NY and ask people if they were supporting Obama or McCain. When they said they were supporting Obama, he gave them policies that McCain supports but pretended they were Obama's positions on the issues. They all agreed with McCain's policies.

OH YEAH, ACORN IS A LEGITIMATE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION

FROM THE NY POST:

CLEVELAND - A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.

"Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they'll give me a dollar to sign up," said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

"The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, 'You are?' I say, 'Yup,' and then they say, 'Can you just sign up again?' " he said.

Does this actually surprise anyone who follows politics?  We all know ACORN is nothing but a fraudulent vote machine for the Democrat party.  Over the past week, several ACORN offices have been raided by the FBI, all involving cases of voter fraud such as the above story.  They are trying to steal the election for their community organizer, Barack Obama.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE #2

ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz.......huh?....what?.....oh sorry. I must have dozed off.

You guys know that I am intellectually honest and say what I think, so some of you may not like what I am going to say. Not only was the debate a snoozer, I felt as if I was watching a Democrat primary debate. Where was the conservatism? Where was the talk of the Constitution? Where was the talk of personal responsibility? It was nowhere to be found. But I did hear a lot of talk about new programs, that the Constitution does not authorize, from BOTH sides. Yeah, I heard a few snippets from McCain, a very few that were on target. But the majority of the talking points coming from both candidates had absolutely nothing to do with conservatism.

I am almost to the point that even with Sarah Palin on the ticket, I'm finding it hard to vote for McCain. I'm of the belief that either Palin should be at the top of the ticket.....which obviously isn't going to happen.....or Palin should consider leaving the ticket. I'm not kidding. McCain is no conservative.....he's not even close and he is starting to drag her down. I'd hate to see her name sullied because of him.

MY ADVICE TO JOHN MCCAIN FOR TONIGHT'S DEBATE

John McCain and Barack Obama square off in this year's second presidential debate.  The format is that of a town hall meeting, which should play to McCain's strength and Obama's weakness.  However, Obama did not do a whole lot of stuttering and stammering in the first debate and McCain would be well advised to note that.  There was no knockout in the first debate and most people probably would have called their first debate a draw.  In other words, if you suspport Obama, you'll probably say he won.  If you support McCain, you'll probably say he won.  But the undecideds were probably still undecided after the debate.

John McCain had the chance to throw a few knockout punches but declined to do so.  He has put too much of his energy into so-called "bi-partisianship."  He needs to stop trying to please everyone and focus in on pleaseing his base and those undecided voters that are looking for a stark contrast between the candidates.  Has he noticed how popular Palin is?  He should be taking his cues from her and using her tactics.  She has not been afraid to point out the differences between the candidates.  She has not been shy about pointing out scandals and other blotches on Obama's record.  And the country loves her for it.

Sen McCain....take the fight to Obama.  Stop worrying about how the press sees you.  Stop worrying about what liberals think of you.  Your push for bipartisianship is not effective.  Fight for what you believe in and stop trying to build consensus.  Bring up Obama's ties with Ayers.  Bring up his ties Rev. Wright.  Bring up his ties with Acorn.  The country as a whole does not want someone this liberal and this radical to be president.  You have to go in and point out all of his weaknesses.  If you choose to continue to be so congenial, you will find yourself back in Arizona come Jan. 20th, 2009.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

AT LEAST THERE ARE STILL A FEW REPUBLICANS WITH SOME BALLS!

Old news....the House passed the Free Market Extermination Act......errrr ummmmmm.....the bailout bill today. I still have not had anyone answer the question for me, where in the Constitution the congress found the authority to do this. But I guess the Constitution no longer matters to most of our politicians....as long as there is some pork included, these morons will vote for anything.

Now, I am not sure of the reasons for all of the following Republicans to vote "no" but they all did. I am hoping the reason was because they believe in the Constitution. They believe in the free market. They know that more government intervention is a recipe for disaster. I truly am hoping that the knew this was the single largest power grab by the federal government in modern times and voted no because of a belief in limited self-government. Like I said, I'm not sure of the reason, but the following Republicans did vote no on this bill and as such I think they should be recognized and commended.

Robert Aderholt, Todd Akin, Michele Bachmann, Roscoe Bartlett, Joe Barton, Brian Bilbray, Gus Bilirakis, Rob Bishop, Marsha Blackburn, Paul Broun, Ginny Brown-Waite, Michael Burgess, Dan Burton, Steve Buyer, Shelley Moore Capito, John Carter, Steve Chabot, John Culberson, David Davis, Geoff Davis, Nathan Deal, Mario Diaz-Balart, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, John Doolittle, Thelma Drake, John 'Jimmy' Duncan, Philip English, Tom Feeney, Jeff Flake, Randy Forbes, Jeff Fortenberry, Virginia Foxx, Trent Franks, Elton Gallegly, Scott Garrett, Phil Gingrey, Louie Gohmert, Virgil Goode, Bob Goodlatte, Sam Graves, Ralph Hall, Doc Hastings, Robin Hayes, Dean Heller, Jeb Hensarling, Kenny Hulshof, Duncan Hunter, Darrell Issa, Sam Johnson, Tim Johnson, Walter Jones, Jim Jordan, Ric Keller, Steve King, Jack Kingston, Steven LaTourette, Doug Lamborn, Tom Latham, Robert Latta, John Linder, Frank LoBiondo, Frank Lucas, Connie Mack, Donald Manzullo, Kenny Marchant, Kevin McCarthy, Michael McCaul, Thad McCotter, Patrick McHenry, John Mica, Candice Miller, Jeff Miller, Jerry Moran, Tim Murphy, Marilyn Musgrave, Randy Neugebauer, Devin Nunes, Ron Paul, Stevan Pearce, Mike Pence, Thomas Petri, Joe Pitts, Todd Platts, Ted Poe, Tom Price, Dennis Rehberg, David Reichert, Rick Renzi, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Mike Rogers, Dana Rohrabacher, Peter Roskam, Edward Royce, Bill Sali, Steve Scalise, Jim Sensenbrenner, John Shimkus, Christopher Smith, Adrian Smith, Cliff Stearns, Todd Tiahrt, Michael Turner, Timothy Walberg, Lynn Westmoreland, Ed Whitfield, Robert Wittman, Bill Young, Don Young

If you see your Republican representative on this list, send them a quick email thanking them for standing up for the Constitution. If you don't see their name, you may want to email them and let them know of your disgust.

MY ADVICE TO SARAH PALIN FOR TONIGHT'S DEBATE

I literally have about 3 minutes to type this before I need to run out the door, so I'll make this short and to the point.

Gov. Palin, please be yourself tonight.  Answer the questions the way YOU would answer the questions, not the way John McCain's V.P. would answer the questions.  Please don't try to drop in McCain's talking points unless you truly agree with them.

The reason conservatives came alive when you were selected as the V.P. was because you are a conservative and McCain is not.  We want to hear conservatism.  Your conservatism will knock out Biden's liberalism in a heartbeat.  Many of us, including myself, are only supporting this ticket because of you.  It does the ticket absolutely no good if you begin parroting McCain talking points.  Be yourself even if you disagree with McCain....especially if you disagree with him.

Good luck tonight.

NEW VETS FOR FREEDOM AD "SKIPPED"

Vets for Freedom released "Skipped" as part of a continuing campaign to urge Senator Obama to tell the Truth about the Surge and fully acknowledge U.S. success in Iraq. The $2.2 million dollar statewide television advertising campaign is VFF’s largest expenditure in a single state buy thus far on this issue. The ad will air in California on October 1st and run through October 9th.

Senator Obama repeatedly denies that the surge worked, contradicting reports from top commanders on the ground in Iraq, yet has only been to Iraq twice and has missed countless votes regarding the mission. VFF released "Skipped" to underscore Senator Obama’s failure to be informed of the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan in order to ask him, and Congress, to support passage of legislation in the U.S. Senate that recognizes the success of the surge and our troops.

BANKRUPTCY, NOT BAILOUT, IS THE ANSWER

From CNN Politics:

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Congress has balked at the Bush administration's proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. Under this plan, the Treasury would have bought the "troubled assets" of financial institutions in an attempt to avoid economic meltdown.

This bailout was a terrible idea. Here's why.

The current mess would never have occurred in the absence of ill-conceived federal policies. The federal government chartered Fannie Mae in 1938 and Freddie Mac in 1970; these two mortgage lending institutions are at the center of the crisis. The government implicitly promised these institutions that it would make good on their debts, so Fannie and Freddie took on huge amounts of excessive risk.

FOR FULL STORY CLICK HERE

September 29, 2008

WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION DOES THE CONGRESS FIND THE AUTHORITY FOR THE BAILOUT?

A lot has been debated about this bailout. Will it work? Who should be held accountable? Where will the money come from? How can the government, who caused this meltdown in the first place, remedy the situation? How much money should the bailout encompass? What will happen if we do nothing?

The most important question is being overlooked. Where in the Constitution does the congress find the authority to do this? I'll tell you why next to no one is asking this question. Because the answer is....no where. The Constitution does not authorize the congress to engage in such actions. But everyone, especially those in congress and yes that includes Republicans too, seem to ignore this most vital question. Thank God there are a few conservatives, Sen.. Jim DeMint for one, asking this question, but overall, the silence is deafening.

The Constitution is a limit on the powers of the federal government. Nowhere in the Constitution is the power to nationalize bad consumer and commercial debt. Therefore, the congress has no authority to do this.

Since when have we given the federal government the power to decide which companies are allowed to survive and which companies are allowed to fail? The only entity to make these decisions is the free market.

The conservatives should be screaming from the hilltops about this. Some seem to resigned to bend over and take it where the sun don't shine. Where is the political courage? Where are those fighting for conservative values? I already see the libs laughing about Republicans supporting nationalizing the lending institutions.

Well Trent, what should we do? Let the market work! When allowed to work unfettered, the market corrects itself. New businesses and other lending institutions will swoop in and buy the debt. Entrepreneurs would do what they do. They'd find a way to make money off of the situation while providing a needed service to the community. This whole issue showcases exactly what happens when the congress intervenes in the business arena. The congress enacted laws that forced these lending institutions to make loans to unqualified people in order to bring up the home ownership of people who can't afford a home. Think about that. There was a reason these people couldn't afford to buy a home....they didn't have the money to buy a house. So simple, yet the government forced the lenders to make these loans under the threat of stiff penalties and fines if they did not. And now they are blaming wall street and the lenders for being greedy? Let's get real!

And if you think this bailout is going to simply pertain to bad mortgage debt....just wait. This is going to spread into all areas of the economy. Why can't the government realize they should just get out of the way? Why are the citizens of this country allowing our government to slowly but surely shoving socialism down our throats?

THE FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE OF 2008

On Friday, September 26th, Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain had their first debate of the 2008 election year.  Here are my quick thoughts on the debate.

I don't think the performances of the candidates changed anyone's mind.  My guess is if you support McCain, you'll say he won.  If you support Obama, you'll say he won.  I didn't see any decisive victory for either one.  McCain did better than I thought he would.  Obama also did better than I thought he would.  I speak only of style and delivery, not necessarily the substance.

I think Sen. McCain could have scored a knockout but failed to do so.  All he had to do was speak about conservative ideals and values.  He very easily could have refuted nearly all of Obama's talking points with clearcut conservatism.  Of course, this is no surprise to me.  How can one speak about conservatism, when one is not a conservative?

How many times did Sen. Obama say, "I agree with Sen. McCain."  or  "John is right."  When the Republican and the Democrat running agree on so much....it's just a bad sign for Republicans especially when the Democrat is the most liberal member of the Senate.

I'm sitting here trying to think what to type and no words are coming to me.  I am not excited about this election.  Gov. Sarah Palin brought me some hope, but I fear that the McCain staff has her on the McCain talking points.  If the McCain camp was smart, they'd stay away from her and let Palin be Palin.  The reason so many of us were so excited about Gov. Palin joining the ticket was that she was not Sen. McCain.  Let Gov. Palin be the politician we were excited about.  We'll see how the V.P. debate goes on Thursday.  Again, the best thing the McCain campaign can do is just stay away from Sarah Palin and allow her to be herself.

"GRASSROOTS" SMEAR CAMPAIGN TIED TO OBAMA

Is it true that this video was produced by one of the largest PR firms in the world? This firm has direct ties to the Obama campaign. Read what the Jawa Report has uncovered.

From the Jawa Report:

Extensive research was conducted by the Jawa Report to determine the source of smears directed toward Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Those smears included false allegations that she belonged to a secessionist political party and that she has radical anti-American views.

Our research suggests that a subdivision of one of the largest public relations firms in the world most likely started and promulgated rumors about Sarah Palin that were known to be false. These rumors were spread in a surreptitious manner to avoid exposure.

It is also likely that the PR firm was paid by outside sources to run the smear campaign. While not conclusive, evidence suggests a link to the Barack Obama campaign. Namely:

* Evidence suggests that a YouTube video with false claims about Palin was uploaded and promoted by members of a professional PR firm.

* The family that runs the PR firm has extensive ties to the Democratic Party, the netroots, and are staunch Obama supporters.

* Evidence suggests that the firm engaged in a concerted effort to distribute the video in such a way that it would appear to have gone viral on its own. Yet this effort took place on company time.

* Evidence suggests that these distribution efforts included actions by at least one employee of the firm who is unconnected with the family running the company.

* The voice-over artist used in this supposedly amateur video is a professional.

* This same voice-over artist has worked extensively with David Axelrod’s firm, which has a history of engaging in phony grassroots efforts, otherwise known as “astroturfing.”

* David Axelrod is Barack Obama’s chief media strategist.

* The same voice-over artist has worked directly for the Barack Obama campaign.

WHO'S TO BLAME FOR U.S. MORTGAGE MELTDOWN

This is a great explanation of what has happened with mortgage meltdown going on. It is from World Net Daily and written by Drew Zahn. I will post an excerpt from the article and then link to the article so you can finish reading it.

"While many pundits are pointing to corporate greed and a lack of government regulation as the cause for the American mortgage and financial crisis, some analysts are saying it wasn't too little government intervention that cased the mortgage meltdown, but too much, in the form of activists compelling the government to pressure Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae into unsound – though politically correct – lending practices.

"Home mortgages have been a political piñata for many decades," writes Stan J. Liebowitz, economics professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, in a chapter of his forthcoming book, Housing America: Building out of a Crisis.

Liebowitz puts forward an explanation that he admits is "not consistent with the nasty-subprime-lender hypothesis currently considered to be the cause of the mortgage meltdown."

In a nutshell, Liebowitz contends that the federal government over the last 20 years pushed the mortgage industry so hard to get minority homeownership up, that it undermined the country's financial foundation to achieve its goal."

CHARLIE GIBSON'S DISHONEST INTERVIEW WITH SARAH PALIN

Gov. Sarah Palin sat down with ABC's Charlie Gibson for an interview.  The interview aired on September 11th, however, we were not informed of the edits that took place.  The following is the interview in it's entirety.  The words in bold were edited out of the program that aired on the program that night.

GIBSON: Governor, let me start by asking you a question that I asked John McCain about you, and it is really the central question. Can you look the country in the eye and say “I have the experience and I have the ability to be not just vice president, but perhaps president of the United States of America?”

PALIN: I do, Charlie, and on January 20, when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, will be ready. I’m ready.

GIBSON: And you didn’t say to yourself, “Am I experienced enough? Am I ready? Do I know enough about international affairs? Do I — will I feel comfortable enough on the national stage to do this?”

PALIN: I didn’t hesitate, no.

GIBSON: Didn’t that take some hubris?

PALIN: I — I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can’t blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we’re on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can’t blink.  So I didn’t blink then even when asked to run as his running mate.

GIBSON: But this is not just reforming a government. This is also running a government on the huge international stage in a very dangerous world. When I asked John McCain about your national security credentials, he cited the fact that you have commanded the Alaskan National Guard and that Alaska is close to Russia. Are those sufficient credentials?

PALIN: But it is about reform of government and it’s about putting government back on the side of the people, and that has much to do with foreign policy and national security issues Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that’s with the energy independence that I’ve been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy, that I worked on as chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, overseeing the oil and gas development in our state to produce more for the United States.

GIBSON: I know. I’m just saying that national security is a whole lot more than energy.

PALIN: It is, but I want you to not lose sight of the fact that energy is a foundation of national security. It’s that important. It’s that significant.

GIBSON: Did you ever travel outside the country prior to your trip to Kuwait and Germany last year?

PALIN: Canada, Mexico, and then, yes, that trip, that was the trip of a lifetime to visit our troops in Kuwait and stop and visit our injured soldiers in Germany. That was the trip of a lifetime and it changed my life.

GIBSON: Have you ever met a foreign head of state?

PALIN: There in the state of Alaska, our international trade activities bring in many leaders of other countries.

GIBSON: And all governors deal with trade delegations.

PALIN: Right.

GIBSON: Who act at the behest of their governments.

PALIN: Right, right.

GIBSON: I’m talking about somebody who’s a head of state, who can negotiate for that country. Ever met one?

PALIN: I have not and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you. But, Charlie, again, we’ve got to remember what the desire is in this nation at this time. It is for no more politics as usual and somebody’s big, fat resume maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment, where, yes, they’ve had opportunities to meet heads of state … these last couple of weeks … it has been overwhelming to me that confirmation of the message that Americans are getting sick and tired of that self-dealing and kind of that closed door, good old boy network that has been the Washington elite.

GIBSON: Let me ask you about some specific national security situations.

PALIN: Sure.

GIBSON: Let’s start, because we are near Russia, let’s start with Russia and Georgia.  The administration has said we’ve got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore Georgian sovereignty over South Ossetia and Abkhazia?

PALIN: First off, we’re going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there. I was able to speak with him the other day and giving him my commitment, as John McCain’s running mate, that we will be committed to Georgia. And we’ve got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep…

GIBSON: You believe unprovoked.

PALIN: I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That’s why we have to keep an eye on Russia.
And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing in Georgia?

PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.

Sarah Palin on Russia:

We cannot repeat the Cold War. We are thankful that, under Reagan, we won the Cold War, without a shot fired, also. We’ve learned lessons from that in our relationship with Russia, previously the Soviet Union.  We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.

GIBSON: Would you favor putting Georgia and Ukraine in NATO?

PALIN: Ukraine, definitely, yes. Yes, and Georgia.

GIBSON: Because Putin has said he would not tolerate NATO incursion into the Caucasus.

PALIN: Well, you know, the Rose Revolution, the Orange Revolution, those actions have showed us that those democratic nations, I believe, deserve to be in NATO.  Putin thinks otherwise. Obviously, he thinks otherwise, but…

GIBSON: And under the NATO treaty, wouldn’t we then have to go to war if Russia went into Georgia?

PALIN: Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you’re going to be expected to be called upon and help. But NATO, I think, should include Ukraine, definitely, at this point and I think that we need to — especially with new leadership coming in on January 20, being sworn on, on either ticket, we have got to make sure that we strengthen our allies, our ties with each one of those NATO members.  We have got to make sure that that is the group that can be counted upon to defend one another in a very dangerous world today.

GIBSON: And you think it would be worth it to the United States, Georgia is worth it to the United States to go to war if Russia were to invade.

PALIN: What I think is that smaller democratic countries that are invaded by a larger power is something for us to be vigilant against. We have got to be cognizant of what the consequences are if a larger power is able to take over smaller democratic countries.   And we have got to be vigilant. We have got to show the support, in this case, for Georgia. The support that we can show is economic sanctions perhaps against Russia, if this is what it leads to.   It doesn’t have to lead to war and it doesn’t have to lead, as I said, to a Cold War, but economic sanctions, diplomatic pressure, again, counting on our allies to help us do that in this mission of keeping our eye on Russia and Putin and some of his desire to control and to control much more than smaller democratic countries.  His mission, if it is to control energy supplies, also, coming from and through Russia, that’s a dangerous position for our world to be in, if we were to allow that to happen.

Sarah Palin on Iran and Israel:

GIBSON: Let me turn to Iran. Do you consider a nuclear Iran to be an existential threat to Israel?

PALIN: I believe that under the leadership of Ahmadinejad, nuclear weapons in the hands of his government are extremely dangerous to everyone on this globe, yes.

GIBSON: So what should we do about a nuclear Iran? John McCain said the only thing worse than a war with Iran would be a nuclear Iran. John Abizaid said we may have to live with a nuclear Iran. Who’s right?

PALIN: No, no. I agree with John McCain that nuclear weapons in the hands of those who would seek to destroy our allies, in this case, we’re talking about Israel, we’re talking about Ahmadinejad’s comment about Israel being the “stinking corpse, should be wiped off the face of the earth,” that’s atrocious. That’s unacceptable.

GIBSON: So what do you do about a nuclear Iran?

PALIN: We have got to make sure that these weapons of mass destruction, that nuclear weapons are not given to those hands of Ahmadinejad, not that he would use them, but that he would allow terrorists to be able to use them. So we have got to put the pressure on Iran and we have got to
count on our allies to help us, diplomatic pressure.

GIBSON: But, Governor, we’ve threatened greater sanctions against Iran for a long time. It hasn’t done any good. It hasn’t stemmed their nuclear program.

PALIN: We need to pursue those and we need to implement those. We cannot back off. We cannot just concede that, oh, gee, maybe they’re going to have nuclear weapons, what can we do about it. No way, not Americans. We do not have to stand for that.

GIBSON: What if Israel decided it felt threatened and needed to take out the Iranian nuclear facilities?

PALIN: Well, first, we are friends with Israel and I don’t think that we should second guess the measures that Israel has to take to defend themselves and for their security.

GIBSON: So if we wouldn’t second guess it and they decided they needed to do it because Iran was an existential threat, we would cooperative or agree with that.

PALIN: I don’t think we can second guess what Israel has to do to secure its nation.

GIBSON: So if it felt necessary, if it felt the need to defend itself by taking out Iranian nuclear facilities, that would be all right.

PALIN: We cannot second guess the steps that Israel has to take to defend itself.

GIBSON: We talk on the anniversary of 9/11. Why do you think those hijackers attacked? Why did they want to hurt us?

PALIN: You know, there is a very small percentage of Islamic believers who are extreme and they are violent and they do not believe in American ideals, and they attacked us and now we are at a point here seven years later, on the anniversary, in this post-9/11 world, where we’re able to commit to never again. They see that the only option for them is to become a suicide bomber, to get caught up in this evil, in this terror. They need to be provided the hope that all Americans have instilled in us, because we’re a democratic, we are a free, and we are a free-thinking society.

GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?

PALIN: In what respect, Charlie?

GIBSON: The Bush — well, what do you — what do you interpret it to be?

PALIN: His world view.

GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war.

PALIN: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that’s the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better.

GIBSON: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

PALIN: I agree that a president’s job, when they swear in their oath to uphold our Constitution, their top priority is to defend the United States of America.  I know that John McCain will do that and I, as his vice president, families we are blessed with that vote of the American people and are elected to serve and are sworn in on January 20, that will be our top priority is to defend the American people.

GIBSON: Do we have a right to anticipatory self-defense? Do we have a right to make a preemptive strike again another country if we feel that country might strike us?

PALIN: Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend.

GIBSON: Do we have the right to be making cross-border attacks into Pakistan from Afghanistan, with or without the approval of the Pakistani government?

PALIN: Now, as for our right to invade, we’re going to work with these countries, building new relationships, working with existing allies, but forging new, also, in order to, Charlie, get to a point in this world where war is not going to be a first option. In fact, war has got to be, a military strike, a last option.

GIBSON: But, Governor, I’m asking you: We have the right, in your mind, to go across the border with or without the approval of the Pakistani government.

PALIN: In order to stop Islamic extremists, those terrorists who would seek to destroy America and our allies, we must do whatever it takes and we must not blink, Charlie, in making those tough decisions of where we go and even who we target.

GIBSON: And let me finish with this. I got lost in a blizzard of words there. Is that a yes? That you think we have the right to go across the border with or without the approval of the Pakistani government, to go after terrorists who are in the Waziristan area?

PALIN: I believe that America has to exercise all options in order to stop the terrorists who are hell bent on destroying America and our allies. We have got to have all options out there on the table.

Sarah Palin on God:

GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?

PALIN: You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.

GIBSON: Exact words.

PALIN: But the reference there is a repeat of Abraham Lincoln’s words when he said — first, he suggested never presume to know what God’s will is, and I would never presume to know God’s will or to speak God’s words.  But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and that’s a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God’s side.  That’s what that comment was all about, Charlie. And I do believe, though, that this war against extreme Islamic terrorists is the right thing. It’s an unfortunate thing, because war is hell and I hate war, and, Charlie, today is the day that I send my first born, my son, my teenage son overseas with his Stryker brigade, 4,000 other wonderful American men and women, to fight for our country, for democracy, for our freedoms.  Charlie, those are freedoms that too many of us just take for granted. I hate war and I want to see war ended. We end war when we see victory, and we do see victory in sight in Iraq.

GIBSON: I take your point about Lincoln’s words, but you went on and said, “There is a plan and it is God’s plan.”

PALIN: I believe that there is a plan for this world and that plan for this world is for good. I believe that there is great hope and great potential for every country to be able to live and be protected with inalienable rights that I believe are God-given, Charlie, and I believe that those are the rights to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  That, in my world view, is a grand — the grand plan.

GIBSON: But then are you sending your son on a task that is from God?

PALIN: I don’t know if the task is from God, Charlie. What I know is that my son has made a decision. I am so proud of his independent and strong decision he has made, what he decided to do and serving for the right reasons and serving something greater than himself and not choosing a real easy path where he could be more comfortable and certainly safer.

WHOOPI DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE CONSTITUTION

Whoopi Goldberg made a complete fool of herself on The View last week.  The guest on the show was Sen. John McCain.  They were all having a conversation about Roe vs. Wade and the types of judges McCain would nominate for the Supreme Court.  Sen. McCain stated, "My interpretation of the Constitution of the United States is that the United States Supreme Court enforces the Constitution of the United States and does not legislate nor invent areas that are responsibilities, according to the Constitution, of the legislative branch."

Very shortly after that comment, this is the exchange that Whoopi Goldberg had with John McCain:

GOLDBERG: "Can you just, and I don’t want to misinterpret what you’re saying. Did you say you wanted strict Constitutionalists? Because that, that-"

McCAIN:  "No, I want people who interpret the Constitution of the United States the way our founding fathers envision-"

GOLDBERG:  "Does that-"

McCAIN:  "-for them to do."

GOLDBERG:  "Should I be worried about being a slave, about being returned to slavery?  Because certain things happened in the Constitution that you had to change."

Of course, the audience started cheering and everyone thought that Whoopi was so brilliant.

Here's the problem.  The Constitution already abolished slavery.  A strict constitutionalist judge would follow the Constitution and obviously, Whoopi would have nothing to worry about.  There is very little in the Constitution about slavery with the exception of the 3/5 rule.  However, most people are ignorant of the fact that the 3/5 rule was not a racist rule that counted slaves only as 3/5 of a person because of bigotry.  The 3/5 rule was inserted by anti-slavery advocates because it gave the slave states less representation in Congress and therefore less power.  For good measure and clarity, the 13th Amendment officially abolished slavery in the United States.  Amendments are part of the Constitution.  Whoopi should study up on the Constitution a little before making such silly remarks.

DEFEAT JACK MURTHA

This man must be defeated in November. His comments about our brave Marines is nothing short of outrageous. His opponent is Lt. Col. William Russell, a decorated Iraq war veteran who was in the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. Citizens of Pennsylvania, do the right thing and vote Murtha out and Russell in.
